The role of technology in facilitating play for children with physical disabilities: Development of the Dice Model of Play

What is play? Play is a fundamental need for all children as it is associated with physical, emotional, and mental development. Children with physical disabilities often have fewer opportunities to engage in play. In rehabilitation, play is frequently used as therapy, sometimes changing how children view and respond to play. Building on previous research highlighting the multiple facets of play, we define and introduce our play model called the Dice Model of Play. We developed the Dice Model of Play by considering the holistic aspects of play. In this study, we hope to redefine our model in a manner that better serves children living with physical disabilities.  We will seek feedback from parents, children, experts in play, and professionals working with children with disability.
