Development of a parent-to-parent mentorship pilot program for parents whose children live with NDD

Parents supporting children with a neurodevelopmental disorder (NDD) often report more psychological distress and lower social support. In addition, these families may not always feel like their voices are heard or included in research. Thus, it is essential to identify ways to support parents of children with NDD and alleviate some of the burdens they experience. This project will use a parent-to-parent mentorship project in Winnipeg, Manitoba, for families supporting a child with NDD. Through partnership with the Family Advisory Council at the Rehabilitation Centre for Children/ Specialized Servicesfor Children and Youth  (RCC/SSCY)’s, we hope to use evidence-based practices to pilot a parent-parent mentorship program to improve the needs of parents who currently support a child with NDD.
